Alex Smith is a Managing Director, Wealth Advisor at Cresset’s San Francisco office. Alex takes a family-office approach to all relationships, as he believes investment management is just one component of a holistic wealth strategy. He advises clients on their overall balance sheet, including private and public investments, credit and liquidity needs, risk management, and estate and charitable planning. He specializes in working with financial principals, real estate investors, entrepreneurs, executives of public and private companies, and high-net-worth families.
Prior to Cresset, Alex spent more than 11 years with J.P. Morgan Private Bank in New York and San Francisco, advising some of the most sophisticated professional investors in the country.
Alex graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance and management information systems (MIS) from the Lerner College of Business & Economics at the University of Delaware. He actively supports Larkin Street Youth Services, a Bay Area nonprofit organization that provides at-risk youth with housing, education, and work programs.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys exploring Marin County with his wife, Emily, and their two young children. On the weekends, he and his family enjoy swimming, biking through Tiburon, and trips to Lake Tahoe. When the kids are napping, Alex quickly shifts to home improvement projects, where he continuously learns new skills while incorporating additional efficiency and practicality – much like his professional approach.
