Tim Cotter, J.D., CPA, LL.M is a Director, Tax Manager and provides income and estate tax planning advice to Family Office clients in concert with preparing and filing individual, trust, and private foundation tax returns. Tim has over 15 years of experience working in tax, providing guidance on a variety of federal, state, and local tax issues.
Prior to Cresset, Tim worked as a senior manager at a public accounting firm where he advised individual clients on estate and income tax planning, in addition to preparing and filing corporate, partnership, individual, gift, and exempt organization tax returns. Tim also worked at a regional law firm in the estate and tax group and provided advice to clients on estate tax and estate administration, as well as several areas of tax controversy, including various communications with the IRS and state revenue departments. Tim started his career at a Big Four accounting firm working in the international tax group, providing tax planning and minimization strategies to clients.
Tim graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in business economics and modern American history. Tim was also a member of the varsity football team during his time at Brown. Later, Tim graduated from the Villanova University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree, as well as an LL.M in taxation. Tim also holds a Certified Public Accountant license for Pennsylvania and is a member of the Pennsylvania and U.S. Tax Court Bars.
Tim resides in northeastern Pennsylvania with his wife and three children.
