Alex Smith is a Managing Director and Wealth Advisor in Cresset’s San Francisco office. He advises ultra-high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, real estate investors, financial principals and executives of public and private companies on comprehensive wealth strategy and investment management. Taking a family office approach to every relationship, Alex works closely with clients across all facets of their balance sheet, including public and private investments, liquidity and credit planning, risk management, estate strategy and philanthropic planning. Most recently, he was named to the 2026 Forbes Best-in-State Wealth Advisors List for California.
Prior to joining Cresset, Alex spent more than a decade at J.P. Morgan Private Bank in New York and San Francisco, where he advised many of the country’s most sophisticated professional investors and wealthy families.
Alex earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and management information systems from the University of Delaware’s Lerner College of Business & Economics. He is also an active supporter of Larkin Street Youth Services, a Bay Area nonprofit dedicated to providing housing, education and career development opportunities for at-risk youth.
Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and their two children exploring Marin County and the greater Bay Area. He and his family enjoy swimming, biking through Tiburon and heading to Lake Tahoe as often as possible. Alex also has a strong interest in home improvement projects, where he applies creativity, efficiency and problem-solving skills beyond the office.
