John Welsh is a Managing Director and Wealth Advisor at Cresset, where he provides tailored guidance to clients across many aspects of their wealth. Leveraging Cresset’s integrated platform, he helps coordinate tailored guidance and resources across investment management, private markets, tax and estate planning, and family office services. John and his team have experience in asset allocation, investment manager selection, estate and wealth transfer strategies, financial planning, and banking and credit solutions.
Prior to joining Cresset, John led family office groups at CIBC and Commerce Trust Company in Chicago and St. Louis. Serving as a trusted advisor and client advocate, he led teams of professionals to unite traditional wealth management—investment consulting, credit, and financial strategy—with advanced family office capabilities, including governance, fiduciary support, risk management, financial education, and philanthropic strategy. Earlier in his career, John was an attorney in the Private Client Group at McDermott Will & Emery in Chicago and began his career as a Certified Public Accountant in PwC’s tax group in Washington, D.C. and Chicago.
John holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Notre Dame and earned his Juris Doctor from the Northwestern University School of Law.
