Eric Becker: One day we were talking about our experiences with our wealth managers, and Avy had worked with two firms in his career and had less than satisfactory experiences. I had also experienced the same thing he did, which was, it left me wanting more. I felt that it could have been so much better.
Avy Stein: So, we felt that we could create something that had all the creativity and innovation, private markets, capabilities, family office services, and we could do it in a scaled way, and we could build something which was the house that we wanted to live in. Have everybody at Cresset be an owner and have clients also share in that ownership and truly act as fiduciaries for our clients because they deserve better.
Doug Regan: What we noticed was missing in the industry was a wealth management firm that was dedicated to serving clients, but also providing access to investment grade private opportunities. They have a vast network, and they have the resources to pull those people together.
Susie Cranston: When you can have a red thread that sort of helps tie together priorities, helps to really be that institutional memory where necessary, those things I think become invaluable over time.
Jessica Malkin: At Cresset, we were custom built to serve first generation wealth creators, entrepreneurs, founders, multi-generational business owners, athletes and entertainers. We want to be there for that journey and for that pathway, and it helps ensure that we’re not only optimizing your wealth, but we’re optimizing your life.
Eric Becker: What if there was actually a platform, an organization and talent that could help you throughout the season of life? Going all the way back to the beginning of when you were starting a business for the first time. How amazing if there was someone who could coach and advise you, help you get started, and then all the way through to potentially exiting that business and all the things that go along with it.
Doug Regan: Cresset is about leveraging our networks and putting our network to use for our clients. So, what does that mean? Of course, it’s business ideas. Of course it’s new investment opportunities, but beyond that, it’s helping clients realize their full potential.
Eric Becker: We bring those resources to the table, and we take that off of the entrepreneur and CEO founders. We take it off of their shoulders and we partner with them and help them get that done. It helps you financially, it helps you emotionally. It helps you spiritually where you are literally feeling so much better, so much more prepared for what it is that you got yourself into when you first launched your business.
Avy Stein: When they come to us, it’s a full holistic experience and they will have opportunities that they don’t have anywhere else because there really is no place like Cresset. There is no other firm that does all of what we do.
Susie Cranston: Our clients are sort of the north star that motivates us. All of our employees are spending their time day in, day out thinking about not just how can they take care of this generation of clients, but how can we take care of future generations of clients, and that is a differentiated perspective, which will provide differentiated results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Family Office Services vs. Multi-Family Office Services
At their core, both single-family and multi-family offices provide tailored solutions to manage and preserve family wealth. The key distinction lies in the model: a multi-family office (MFO)—like Cresset—delivers these services to multiple families, creating efficiencies through shared resources while maintaining personalized, high-touch service. For the purposes of this page, “family office” and “multi-family office” may be used interchangeably, though Cresset proudly operates as an MFO, offering the sophistication of a dedicated family office with the advantages of scale.
What are Family Office Services used for?
Family Office Services go well beyond investment management—they’re designed to help families sustain wealth and values across generations. These services address both financial complexity and family dynamics, providing strategic support for estate planning, tax optimization, philanthropy, and liquidity events. Just as important, they help families navigate intergenerational planning, governance, and education. Whether facilitating a business transition or aligning financial decisions with family values, Family Office Services are a trusted foundation for both legacy and lifestyle.
What are the tax advantages of Family Office Services?
With a deep understanding of each family’s financial picture and long-term goals, family offices are uniquely positioned to deliver proactive, strategic tax planning. This includes everything from tax-efficient investment strategies to trust structuring and business entity optimization. By staying current on evolving tax laws and leveraging sophisticated techniques—sometimes even emerging technologies like AI—family offices help families minimize liabilities, remain compliant, and make smarter long-term decisions. The result is a customized, forward-looking tax strategy aligned with each family’s priorities.
How do Multi-Family Offices make money?
Multi-family offices typically generate revenue through advisory fees, which may be based on assets under management (AUM), flat fees, or service retainers—depending on the scope of work. At Cresset, we operate under fiduciary standards, which means we are legally and ethically obligated to act in our clients’ best interests at all times. This structure ensures transparency and aligns our incentives directly with your goals, so our success is tied to yours.
Is a Family Office right for me?
If you’re a high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth individual or family seeking a more holistic, values-driven approach to wealth, a family office may be the right fit. Family offices are ideal for those who want integrated support—from investment strategy and estate planning to family governance and philanthropic planning—under one roof. The decision ultimately comes down to your complexity, goals, and desire for long-term, multigenerational stewardship. Understanding the different types of family offices is the first step toward determining the right model for your family’s future.
